Generational Ancestry:

My maternal great-grandparents worked in Brooklyn in the early 1900s, and had a daughter, Angela, in 1914, the same year that they then moved back to Sicily. My mother’s family came back to the U.S. starting in 1946.
My paternal grandfather had been working in the U.S. since the 1930s. The rest of his family came in 1956-7.
While we are not the first in our family to be born here, my brother and I are the first generation to have consciously identified as Italian/Americans.

Regional Ancestry:

Abruzzo and Sicily

Meaning of Italian Heritage:

Understanding the past gives an individual some important tools – insight, sensitivity, and strength -- to chart future journeys. Our own cultural memory informs our experiences in a multicultural society.
