Rutgers University Department of Italian offers a variety of courses from the elementary to the graduate level.  The programs include the study of language, literature and culture.

Graduate students may enroll in either a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), Master of Art (M.A.) or Doctoral program (Ph.D.) and undergraduate students may enroll in major, minor or honors programs.  Students may also participate in a summer program at the University of Urbino (Italy), semester abroad, or Junior year abroad program in Florence.

Rutgers University Italian Studies DepartmentItalian Studies at Rutgers promotes the interdisciplinary study of all areas relating to Italian and Italian American history and culture. Faculty from affiliated departments teaches seminars and lecture classes for undergraduates and encourages stimulating exchange by sponsoring symposia, lectures and cultural events for members of the Rutgers community and the wider public interested in Italy and the Italian American experience. Italian Studies is proud to collaborate closely with the New Jersey Institute of Italian and Italian American Heritage, which is hosted by Rutgers University.

For generations, Seton Hall University has enjoyed the enrollment of thousands of Italian and Italian American students from New Jersey and such neighboring states as New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.  The University community is experiencing a resurgence of Italian American pride and awareness.  On the South Orange campus, more than 200 are enrolled in Italian culture and language courses each semester, and the Italian club, a student organization, is revitalized.  Complementing these activities are the law school's summer exchange programs with the University of Parma and the University of Milan.


Montclair State University - Department of Italian

Montclair State University

The Department of Italian offers Beginning and Intermediate language courses in Italian, which satisfy the 6 credit General Education Requirements in foreign language.

First year students learn the basics of the foreign language grammar, although oral proficiency is emphasized from the very beginning, Intermediate level students are primarily engaged in an intensive grammar review and an introduction to literature.

The Joseph and Elda COCCIA INSTITUTE is a component of Montclair State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences.  It is named in honor of Cav. Joseph Coccia, Jr. and his wife Elda.

In founding the COCCIA INSTITUTE, Mr. and Mrs. Coccia and Montclair State University share the vision for an entity with the flexibility to respond to new opportunities as well as network and collaborate with existing organizations in areas of shared interest.
