Italian Flag Raising Ceremony, Festival and Parade
Toms River, New Jersey
The Ocean County Columbus Day Parade Committee will host an Italian Flag Raising Ceremony at the Ocean County Administration Building, located on 101 Hooper Avenue in Toms River on Friday, October 7th. The event, which is hosted by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders with the expected participation of a folkloric group from Sicily, will begin at 11:30 am.
Throughout the three-day period (7,8 and 9th of October), the Committee will hold a festival featuring foods, crafts, exhibits, antique car show, musical and folkloric entertainment and surprises. Please visit the Committee website at

Italian Dinner and Movie Night
Columbia High School
The Italian Cultural Club and Classes at Columbia High School will sponsor the 14th ITALIAN NIGHT (7th Movie Night), from 5:30pm –10:30pm, in Columbia High School’s New Cafeteria and Black Box Theater. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Italian Cultural Club.
Come and enjoy an Italian meal and see a great Italian movie: IL Gattopardo (The Leopard), in Italian with English subtitles. The film, adapted from the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, is by the famous director Luchino Visconti. The stars are Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon. It takes place in Sicily, Italy in 1860, during the Risorgimento, the period of time during which Italy is unified. It will be una bella serata (a beautiful night). Bring your friends and relatives. Refreshments will be sold during the movie’s intermission.
Tickets are $20.00. Advance sales only, due to limited space (99 seats) in the Black Box Theater. Contributions for boosters are $5.00. Ten-dollar ($10.00) Sponsor donations are also gladly accepted.
