New Jersey Italian American Heritage Foundation and The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University will hold an exclusive evening event, entitled Italian Art Through the Ages. The gathering, in honor of the celebration of the Festa della Repubblica (Founding of the Italian Republic), is intended to showcase the programs of the New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission, which are financially supported by the Foundation. This fund-raising cocktail reception, hosted at one of the largest university museums in the country, will take place on Wednesday, June 1st from 6pm to 8pm in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The short program will feature introductions to Rutgers Universitys Italian, Italian Studies and Italian Art History Departments and will include a presentation on a special Baroque painting exhibition from Naples (featuring renown 17th century artists, such as Caravaggio, Gentileschi, and Ribera), planned for 2007. The culmination of the evening will be a private tour of the Zimmerli Museums extensive permanent collections by Museum Director Gregory Perry, who will highlight some of the museums Roman and Etruscan antiquities, Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings, 19th century sculptures and Italian American 20th century exhibits. Hors devours and Italian regional wine tasting will be provided.
