Student Conference: Italian Heritage Day
Douglass College - Rutgers University
New Brunswick, New Jersey
In mid-March, the Italian Teachers Association
of New Jersey (ITANJ) will be hosting their annual student conference, which
is being co-sponsored
by the Commission. The event will be held at Douglass College at Rutgers
University and this years team is "The Phenomenon of Opera".
Students of the Italian language or culture will be presenting their
works reflecting this theme in the form of performances, artwork and
essays. The conference offers an excellent opportunity for students to
showcase their talents and their work and to network with other students
throughout the State. Seating is limited to 400 students, with a registration
fee of $15 per person, so please register early. For more information

Italian American Leadership Convocation

In mid-March, the Commission will be hosting its 4th Italian
Leadership Convocation, which is a half-day conference at Camden Community
College for leaders of Italian American organizations, Italian language
teachers and interested members of the Italian American community. The
purpose of the conference is to bring together community leaders to develop
statewide community programs for the Italian American community. Individuals
are encouraged to participate in order to network among themselves and
to meet the members of the Commission. The conference will feature program
presentations by the Commission, including an update on the "The
Universality of Italian Heritage" School Curriculum Project, being
piloted in 10 New Jersey school districts. The conference will also hold
working sessions for various programs, including planning for the 2nd New
Jersey Congress of Italian American Organizations. This years convocation
will be held in southern New Jersey, in an effort to reach out to all
parts of the State. For more information as event details become available,

Professional Development Conference:
"Womens Work: The Labor Movement in New Jersey and New York"
Montclair State University Montclair, New Jersey
Montclair State University will be hosting a conference for educators
on the history of Italian American women in the labor force, which is
co-sponsored by the Commission. The conference will feature interactive
multimedia presentations for this day-long workshop, open to students
and teachers. Educators can receive professional development hours for
