Achievement Recognition Committee
Rationale
The Achievement Recognition Committee (ARC) was created and approved by the Commission on August 18, 2004 through Resolution R8004-2. Based on growing public requests to honor the contributions of Italian Americans throughout the state of New Jersey, the Commission unanimously supported and passed this resolution.
Description
The purpose of the ARC is to review potential candidates, whether individuals or institutions, for public recognition through the issuance of an Award in different fields. The committee will raise awareness of the achievements of Italian and Italian Americans and their positive impact on western and world civilization including but not limited to the sciences, technology, fashion, culinary arts, fine and performing arts, medicine, trade and commerce, agriculture, literature and philosophy, maritime, aeronautics and the space industry.
The ARC also is responsible for keeping a record of the Commendations and the Certificates of recognition that the Commission issues to the public. The Commendation recognizes an individual’s or organization’s contributions to the Italian American community. The Certificate of Recognition acknowledges the service of an individual or organization to the Commission.
Mission
“The Achievement Recognition Committee seeks to raise the visibility of individuals or organizations in New Jersey that promote the Italian Heritage, or that serve as examples of exemplary Italian American citizens. By publicly acknowledging an individual’s or organization’s contributions to the community, the Achievement Recognition Committee seeks to promote a positive image of Italian Americans.”
