Rationale
The Community Outreach Relations Committee (COR) was established in an effort to gather community support for projects and initiatives generated by the Commission. The Community Advisory Council was created as required by the Commission’s legislative Act to assist in this process. The work of these two groups helps to coordinate the activities of various Italian American organizations and provides visibility regarding the Commission’s work.
Description
The Community Outreach Relations Committee (COR) is comprised of a group of Commissioners and outside members, usually affiliated with Italian American organizations or educational institutions. The purpose of COR is to compile a statewide list of community based Italian American organizations and reach out to these valuable groups in order coordinate events observing the cultural history and heritage of Italians and Americans of Italian heritage. The Committee seeks volunteers from these groups to participate in commemorative events that will enhance the awareness of students and all citizens in general of the significance of the culture, history and heritage of Italians and Americans of Italian heritage. The COR enhanced its efforts through the creation of the Community Advisory Council (CAC) in 2004, which is required in the governing law of the Commission.
Mission
“The Community Outreach Relations Committee (COR) and the Community Advisory Council (CAC) seeks to build relationships between the numerous Italian American organizations, institutions and groups in the State of New Jersey. The COR and the CAC also seeks to establish a network for the improved coordination of efforts between these organizations.”

Programs and Activities
Historical Activities
The Committee and Advisory Council sponsored four annual leadership convocations for the Italian American community. In October 2004, the committee sponsored the 1st New Jersey Congress of Italian American Organizations and will host the 2nd Congress in October of 2005.
Meetings
The COR/CAC should meet on a quarterly basis to evaluate the Commission activities and outreach campaigns.
